Brazil - Health Formation and Quality Improvement Project

WASHINGTON, January 29, 2009 - The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:

IBRD Loan: US$235 million

TERMS: Maturity = 30 years; Grace= 5 years

Project Description: The project will help improve the effectiveness of Brazil’s universal health care system by supporting the development of regional health care networks, resulting in better promotion, prevention, detection and treatment of priority health conditions, with an emphasis on non-communicable diseases. The project will also seek to improve the quality and efficiency of local hospitals and health centers as well as transport and other logistical systems important for health delivery in the targeted regions and populations.
