The Citroen DS3 will be targeted at premium hatches like the Mini Cooper and upcoming Audi A1
At next month’s Geneva Motor Show Citroen will unveil a new concept designed to kick off the brand’s assault on the luxury vehicle market. While most carmakers associate luxury with sedan bodystyles, Citroen will be taking a different route as previewed by its upcoming DS Inside luxury hatch concept.
A new brand will be established for a future lineup of DS vehicles, starting with the entry-level DS3 and followed by an eventual DS4 and DS5 flagship. A prototype for the DS3 has now been captured while undergoing cold weather testing in Northern Europe.
The prototype seen here features a five-door body but the DS3 is expected to be available as a sporty three-door as well. It will be designed to tackle premium compact vehicles such as the Mini Cooper and upcoming Audi A1 and should first appear in showrooms in the second half of 2010. A bigger DS4 should arrive a year later as a replacement for the current C4.
The DS3 is expected to feature a range of efficient petrol and diesel engines and could even be offered with a diesel-electric hybrid option.
